Brienz Rothorn Railway

Since 1892, the Brienz Rothorn Railway, a Swiss cultural treasure, has been steaming from Brienz to the Rothorn in one hour.

Experience pure happiness!

Situated on the turquoise-blue Lake Brienz, the Brienz Rothorn Railway steams and stomps towards the imposing Brienzer Rothorn in the months between June and October. During the approximately one-hour journey past alpine meadows, streams and sparse forests, a breathtaking panorama opens up over the fjord-like landscape in the Bernese Oberland.

Some of the coal-fired locomotives – around 250 kilos of coal are burnt per trip up the mountain – date back to the century before last. From the time when the Brienz Rothorn Railway was built in just 16 months. Experience pure happiness – and have been doing so since 1892.
